Since FLEXA is a major consumer of wood in manufacturing and distributing kids bedroom furniture, we are aware of our responsibility to preserve the forest and its inhabitants. All wood used to manufacture FLEXA beds are taken from our own sustainable forests in Northern Europe. We take care to make all of our manufacturing processes as earth-friendly as possible. For our wood components we use only environmentally friendly UV lacquers which do not contain formaldehyde or toxic colorings but yet protect the furniture. Here, the cold climate makes the trees grow slowly, which gives it a strong and very dense fiber structure. Owning our own forest means knowing that we always have access to the best timber. Our forest is FSC certified, which means, that we plant new trees whenever we cut down existing ones. We also care about the natural life and rhythm of wildlife and plants that our forest is home to. FSC is an independent, non-governmental, not for profit organization established to promote the responsible management of the world's forests. FSC's standards are the highest social and environmental requirements in the forestry sector and they have proven to work across continents, forest types, sizes and ownership. Even when your baby or toddler bites the safety rail. Our lacquer is durable, environmentally-friendly and free from formaldehyde and hazardous substances, which not only makes it kind to the environment in the children's room, but also at our production facilities. We use two types of lacquer: UV and water-based. UV lacquer hardens when exposed to ultraviolet light. This makes the lacquer completely harmless and gives an attractive and robust finish that can tolerate even the roughest treatment. Nothing goes to waste 40% of the tree trunk is used to produce furniture. The rest - bark, wood shavings and saw dust - is recycled as paper or used for CO2 neutral heating. FLEXA operates its own sawmills in Russia and Estonia where the tree trunks are stripped of bark, planed and sawed into boards and posts. Recycling at every stage - Wood pellets = environmentally-friendly heat! You won't be wasting resources as a FLEXA customer - we don't waste anything. We value our raw materials as well as the earth's resources. Therefore, we recycle tree stumps, wood shavings and even sawdust at our sawmills and factories. CO2-neutral The recycling is carried out by our subsidiary FLEX Heat, which operates its own factory in Estonia. From here, we produce wood pellets from wood shavings and sawdust that is free from additives and lacquer. This produces environmentally-friendly, CO2-neutral wood pellets. Biofuel with long combustion We produce wood pellets by compressing wood shavings and sawdust under high pressure. This process releases the natural binding material, lignin, which produces a stable pellet with long combustion perfect for CHP stations and private homes.
